MT. VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) — One man has been arrested on robbery and resisting arrest charges after a dead body was found on the front porch of Mt. Vernon home.
According to Mt. Vernon Police, around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, a woman showed up at the Mt. Vernon Police station to report a man had possibly been shot at a home on Cherry Street. The woman also reported a man at the same home had attacked her and stolen her phone.
Arriving at the scene, police found the dead body and saw 30-year-old Traviel Gibson run inside the home.
Gibson refused to cooperate with police who eventually entered the home to make the arrest. One officer suffered minor injuries.
The identity of the deceased has not been released.
