SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) — The Illinois State Police are taking precautions in the event of violent protests this weekend at the state capitol.
During his COVID-19 briefing Monday, Governor JB Pritzker said he could not discuss specifics about any threats against state government or state lawmakers, but did say precautions are being taken and praised the leaders of the Illinois National Guard, Illinois State Police, and Illinois Emergency Management Agency.
“You know, we have a great security team for the state consisting of all three agency heads. That’s General [Richard] Neely at our National Guard, Director [Brendan] Kelly at the State Police, and General [Alicia] Tate-Nadeau at our Emergency Management Agency. We really work very cohesively and they’ve done a terrific job so far.”
The F.B.I. has issued warnings about possible armed, violent protests at state capitols across the country by right-wing extremists upset over the election and inauguration of Democrat Joe Biden as President.
