Shane Woods, 43, of Auburn is facing multiple charges including assault on a law enforcement officer, assault in special maritime and territorial jurisdiction, and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds.
Federal prosecutors say Woods was part of a large crowd that attacked a police officer. The officer was one of several that were sprayed with bear repellent. Woods can be seen on video tripping and pushing the officer to the ground. Prosecutors say Woods also assaulted a member of the media and damaged some equipment. They say he can be seen on video yelling and spitting at members of the media, throwing equipment, and ultimately tackling a cameraman.
Woods made his first appearance in court on June 24.
