Man cited, released for resisting Carbondale Police officer

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A man was issued a citation for resisting a peace officer and then released after police were called about a person with a gun in downtown Carbondale.

Carbondale Police say they were initially called to the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue around 11:00 a.m. Tuesday after getting a report of an armed person.  CPD says officers made contact with the suspect, 26-year-old Khalil Pemberton, who first ran from police and then threw a bag he was carrying onto the roof of a nearby building.

Pemberton was caught after a brief foot chase, cited, and then released.  Officers never found a gun and say witnesses who initially called police then refused to further cooperate with investigators.
