An Illinois State Police trooper was struck in this year’s 16th move over law related crash.

Yesterday around 3am, Illinois State Police investigated a traffic crash in Cook County involving an ISP trooper hit by a motorist who failed to move over.

The trooper’s squad car was parked in Lane 3 on Interstate 90 near 75th Street with emergency lights activated, while the trooper was handling a previous traffic crash.  The trooper was out of their squad car assisting the driver.

A Mercedes struck the driver’s side of that vehicle causing it to strike the trooper.  The trooper was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the Mercedes, 33-year-old Damaya Herriott of Chicago, reported no injuries on scene.

Herriott was cited for the Move Over Law – Failure to Yield to Stationary Emergency Vehicle, Following Too Closely, Improper Lane Usage, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
