LAKE OF EGYPT, Ill. (WJPF) – One person has died after a pedestrian vs vehicle crash at Lake of Egypt.
The pedestrian, Jana Lence of Herrin, was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross the street on Lake Egypt Road Saturday night. She was helping people across the street at a memorial benefit for her son who died last December.
Lence was transported by EMS and later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 17 year old male who was traveling home from work. Deputies observed no signs of impairment, but the driver submitted to a voluntary drug and alcohol screening.
Illinois State Police are assisting the investigation.
