Mt. Vernon man arrested for assault, animal cruelty

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) – A call to police over a domestic dispute ended with an arrest on weapons and animal abuse charges.

Mount Vernon Police say they were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of South 19th Street Tuesday afternoon after a report of a man armed with a handgun during an argument. While investigating, police say officers found the decaying bodies of 2 dogs at the home.

Police say 25-year-old Roderick Burnett, Jr. was arrested for armed violence, being felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and aggravated cruelty to animals.
