Suspect in hit and run in Marion has been arrested

MARION, Ill. (WJPF) – The suspect in the hit and run in Marion has been arrested.

The accident happened around 5am November 27 on Skyline Drive where a 44 year old Male, who was operating an electric scooter, was struck by a passing vehicle.

The victim sustained life threatening injuries and was airlifted to a regional trauma center where he remains in critical condition. 

On November 28, with the public’s help, the police were able to locate the vehicle believed to be involved. 

The vehicle was impounded and a suspect identified as Guillermo “Henry” Lopez was detained. 

Investigators have since processed the vehicle for physical evidence and have confirmed that the vehicle is the one which struck the victim. 

Lopez provided an interview and stated he was involved.

Lopez was cited for Motor vehicle crashes involving death or personal injuries, Motor vehicle crash involving damage to vehicle, Duty to give information and render aid, Reckless Driving, Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Improper Lighting – One headlight, Operation of uninsured motor vehicle. 

Lopez was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
