SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) – Governor JB Pritzker has ordered flags at state properties to be flown at half-staff in honor of a suburban Chicago police officer recently killed in the line of duty.

40-year-old Oak Park Detective Allan Reddins was shot and killed November 29 when confronting a man who had carried a gun into a bank. Authorities say 37-year-old Jerrell Thomas was leaving the bank when he was asked by Reddins to show his hands. Instead Thomas shot Reddins who died of his injuries at a hospital. Jerrell Thomas is now in custody.

Flags are ordered at half staff from sunrise Tuesday until sunset Thursday.
