Energy mayor injured in aggravated battery case

ENERGY, Ill. (WJPF) – The mayor of a Williamson County community is recovering after he was attacked while surveying recent winter storm damage.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s says that 74-year-old Energy Mayor Bengi McGee was attacked around 1:00 p.m. Monday. He was treated for injuries including cuts to his face and head. John Alexander, 44, of Carterville, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of threatening a public official.

Police have not said what triggered the violent altercation.
