JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – Police in Jefferson County say a suspect in a vehicle theft fatally shot himself when confronted by officers.
According to the sheriff’s office, the initial report of a stolen vehicle was made a little after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was found a short time later, crashed near the intersection of Richview and Grand Roads.
When the deputy approached the car, the sheriff’s office said the suspect took his own life. Their name has not yet been released. No one else was hurt.
Illinois State Police are assisting in the investigation.
