JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. (WJPF) — Alcohol played a role in a fight at an auction Saturday in Williamson County.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to Bud’s Auction Barn in Johnston City at about 5:45 p.m. Arriving at the scene, they found Adam Jennings pinned to the ground by bystanders.

Witnesses say Jennings, 38, was the aggressor in an altercation involving an elderly man. The 79-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital with an injured leg, a cut on his arm, and swelling and redness around one eye.

Police report Adam Jennings smelled of alcohol and had extremely slurred speech. He was arrested for aggravated battery and taken to the Williamson County Jail.
