NWS: At least two tornadoes touched down in southern Illinois Friday night

PADUCAH, Ky. (WJPF) – A strong storm system brought widespread severe thunderstorms to the region late Friday into early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, the fast moving storms produced several tornadoes, damaging wind, and some large hail.

An EF-2 rated tornado touched down at 12:10 am Saturday just south of the Jackson/Perry County lines, near Matthews Junction, and stayed on the ground for about 13 miles causing damage near the DuQuoin community.

A separate EF-2 twister touched down at 1:15 am Saturday in Johnson County, about three miles west of Vienna, and stayed on the ground for nearly 16 miles, traveling through the Bloomfield area, before lifting off the ground east of Ozark.

A number of trees were damaged as well as some power lines, buildings, and trailers. No injuries or deaths have been reported.
