Former Wayne City police chief pleads guilty to corruption charges

WAYNE CITY, Ill. (WJPF) – The former Chief of Police in Wayne City has pleaded guilty to corruption charges.

Federal prosecutors say Anson Fenton, 46, sold forfeited items confiscated by the police department for his personal benefit.

According to court documents, Fenton sold two motorcycles, valued at more than $5,000, and kept the proceeds without authorization from the Wayne City Board of Trustees. He also traded another motorcycle for a Ford Mustang for his personal benefit. He admitted to driving the motorcycle over state lines to complete the sale in Alexandria, Virginia.

Fenton could face up to 10 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 30.
