ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Emily Williams of the Southern Illinois University softball team has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time in 2025, as announced by the league on Monday.
This is the second consecutive week where the sophomore has received the award, as she was also the MVC Player of the Week last week.
At UNI, Williams went 4-for-8 with three home runs, seven RBI, four runs, and five walks in three games played. In game one of the series, Williams went deep twice and drove in three runs with two runs scored.
One game later, the sophomore went deep once again and went 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and three walks.
Williams now leads the conference in both home runs, 15, and RBI, 46, on the season.
Southern Illinois is set for four home games this week, starting on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against UT Martin. Then, SIU will host Murray State this weekend for its final home series of the year. Game one is set for Friday at 5 p.m., while Senior Day will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. and the ‘Bark in the Park’ game will be on Sunday at 12 p.m.
