Cook County Jail detainees charged with attacking officers

CHICAGO (AP) — Two Cook County Jail detainees suspected in the brutal attack of three correctional officers last week have been indicted on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated kidnapping.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’office says that a grand jury handed up the indictments against Dante Jeffries and Sharelle Sims on Tuesday.
Authorities say that on April 14, Jeffries was returning to his cell when he attacked a correctional officer, and then attacked two more who arrived at the scene. They say he gave the first officer’s keys to Sims who then started opening other cell doors.
