ST. LOUIS – Tyjuana Eason has been named the 2019-20 Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced today. Eason, who was the conference’s champion in the 60 meter, 200 meter and 4×400 meter relay, earned her master’s degree in social work this May with a 4.0 cumulative GPA. She was Southern Illinois’ lone Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient.
The Missouri Valley Conference initiated Scholar-Athletes of the Year for its sponsored sports for the first time in 2019-20. In most cases, the honorees were determined by a vote of league sports information directors in conjunction with the announcement of league scholar-athlete teams.
For sports in which voting did not take place (and the scholar-athlete team was determined by finish at the MVC Championship), the Scholar-Athlete of the Year was awarded to the qualifying student-athlete with the highest finish (cross country) or the highest individual scorer (track & field, swimming & diving) with a 3.7 GPA or above.
