Marion hires Erik Griffin to coach girls’ basketball team

The Marion Wildcats announced Erik Griffin as their next girls’ basketball coach Tuesday night.

Griffin brings plenty of experience to the position with several stops in Southern Illinois the past 15 years at different levels of the game.  Most notably, Griffin led the Meridian Bobcats boys’ basketball team to a State Finals appearance in 2015 and came away with a 2nd place finish.

Griffin recently has served as the Harrisburg freshman boys’ basketball coach before joining Marion’s girls’ varsity staff in 2022 as an assistant coach.

He also served as head coach of Carrier Mills-Stonefort boys’ basketball in the 1991-92 season.

Griffin holds a career record of 85-19 coaching varsity basketball.  This will be his first time as a varsity girls’ basketball head coach.
