Indiana man killed during shootout at Pope County campground

POPE COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – An Indiana man is dead after an officer involved shooting in Pope County, Illinois.

Illinois State Police say around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday a U.S. Marshal and an IDNR Conservation Police Officer were serving an arrest warrant at the Lake Glendale Campground.  The suspect, Floyd Caudill, 40, was located inside of a tent. ISP says after officers made verbal contact with Caudill, he refused to come out of the tent and then fired a shot; the U.S. Marshall returned fire.

ISP says Floyd Caudill was found dead inside of the tent.  Authorities have not specified whether Caudill died of s elf-inflicted gunshot wound, or was killed by a law enforcement.  An autopsy is pending.
