Man faces arson and battery charges in Herrin

HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) – A man is facing arson and battery charges in Herrin.

On the morning of November 14, police responded to a disturbance at 602 N 6th Street.

Upon arrival, officers located a female victim at an adjacent address. She had injuries on her face and body. She told officers she had been battered by her boyfriend and fled the apartment.

The officers located the suspect, Doniel McKenzie. While detaining McKenzie, officers noticed smoke and flames coming from inside the residence. During the investigation it was determined the fire had been intentionally set.

No one else was in the apartment at the time and adjacent apartments were cleared for safety.

McKenzie was arrested for Aggravated Arson and Aggravated Domestic Battery, along with multiple other offenses. He was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
