Accidental shooting in Carbondale under investigation

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – An accidental shooting in Carbondale is under investigation.

On November 20 around 10:30 pm, police responded to the 300 block of South Marion Street. The victim, a 16 year old from Carbondale, was taken to the emergency room with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Officers learned four juveniles were mishandling a firearm which resulted in the victim getting shot accidentally. They also learned the gun had previously been reported stolen from a vehicle in Carbondale.

The juvenile male who fired the shot was arrested for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and released to parents after consulting with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office.
