Vols blow out Kaskaskia in Region 24 Championship, return to NJCAA National Tournament

Second-seeded John A. Logan captured the Region 24 tournament with an easy 84-46 win over number eight seed Kaskaskia to earn the Volunteers sixth-trip to the NJCAA finals starting March 22 in Hutchinson, Kan.

The outcome was decided early when Logan (23-9) went on a 12-point run starting at the 7:35 mark of the first half, building a 34-14 lead.

The Vols expanded the margin to 44-25 at the break and continued to widen the gap in the final twenty minute en route to Logan’s 10th straight win.

Marcus Eaves’ game-high 20 points led four players in double figures.

Julian Norris, Jr., had 12 points off the bench while Caden Hawkins scored 11 points and Taylor Smith netted ten.

Kaskaskia (18-15) got 12 points from Lyonel Hodges who fouled out with 5:58 to play in the game.

Logan was the 2023 NJCAA champion after previous trips to the finals in 1995, 2015, 2021 and 2022.

The 24-team tournament draw including 16 Region winners and eight at-large invitees will be announced on Sunday night starting at 7 p.m. on NJCAA TV.
